Tuesday was meant for our match against Innova JC. All of us were hyped up, psyched up and ready to take them on.
However, hurricane Katrina's cousin Kanasai had to come and waterlog the pitch. They even invited DJ Lightning to turn tables at CCAB. Housepour for that day was rain and Thunder, specially named TYPHOON ON THE PITCH.
Lightning, thunder and rain. Match postponed to the next Wednesday morning.
Yesterday morning, again hyped up, psyched up and all prepared to take Innova on again, we started the match with a couple of the MOST PREPOSTEROUS mistakes ever made. Our frontline gave away 'legs' quite willingly, more than once. Each. I think I came down pretty hard on them because soon after, they redeemed themselves by knocking in a few goals.
Match ended in a 7-0 scoreline, everyone was happy.
Except me.
Why?
SHORT CORNER.
Twenty chances, none succeeded. Short corner squad not working as one unit, forwards forgot to go for post, deflections too off-target. Every mistake in the book, we committed.
Whose fault?
Mine.
After IJ's match, I told myself I will rectify the problem with short corner. I told myself I will knock in a few to redeem myself the next match, which was unfortunately, the very next day against Jurong JC.
Today at 4:30pm, we played JJ. Objectively, we got PWNED by their noob-ness. We lowered ourselves down to their level and played the game to their control. We did not set the standard, we did not convert our skill to goals, we did not follow our gameplan. We just played with them blindly and thrived on luck.
We got banged in the ass, all of us.
Short corner, a !@#$%^-ing huge pain in the ass. Today, albeit lesser opportunities than yesterday, about ten, we still did not manage to convert a
single one of them.
Why?
Deflections at the post were inexistant. Rebounds were extinct. And although pull-out was slightly better, the speed needed a lot of improvement. My finishing was not only imperfect, it was outrageous.
With my short corner at this level, I might as well quit hockey and vacation in Hawaii.
